Keywords

The first and most essential step in producing excellent SEO content is choosing the best target keywords and keyword phrases. SEO is often done for achieving a #1 ranking in search results. The goal is to use the best keywords in website content that benefit your readers and easily help you achieve good SEO rankings.

Keywords are crucial in deciding where your website ranks in Google’s index. Basically, keywords are what a person initially types in the search box of a search engine to find what he is looking for online.

Keywords are ideas and topics that define what your content is about. In terms of SEO, they're the words and phrases that searchers enter into search engines, also called "search queries." If you boil down everything on your page — all the images, video, copy, etc. —to simple words and phrases, those are your primary keywords.

Keywords are important because they are the link between what people are searching for and the content you are providing to fulfill that need. Your goal in ranking on search engines is to drive organic traffic to your site from the search engine result pages (SERPs), and the keywords you choose to target (meaning, among other things, the ones you choose to include in your content) will determine what kind of traffic you get.

Types of Keywords:

  • Short Tail Keywords:
  • A short tail keyword is a phrase that contains 3 words or less. Examples include: “athletic shoes”, “music player” or “engagement ring.” Short tail keywords are also known as “head terms”.

  • Long Tail Keywords:
  • Keywords can be broad and far-reaching (these are usually called "head keywords"), or they can be a more specific combination of several terms — these are often called "long-tail keywords". Long-tail keywords usually have more clearly defined intent. For example,”best organic dog food for a puppy" or " Nike Shoes under 2000 for womens ".

  • LSI Keywords:
  • LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) Keywords are thematic keywords that are closely related to your main keyword. Let’s look at it this way, your main keyword is lemon, then its LSI keywords could be lemon tea, organic lemon, lemon nutrition etc. In order to get an LSI keyword, you need to first decide on the main keyword. LSI keywords are useful in a sense where you can create topics to fit a broad theme and target all the smaller branches all based on one root keyword.
